A Sweet Nothing
by Valerie Ann Oswald
You sweat with anger,
Being betrayed.
From the bond you had with him,
He has now strayed.
You think what might have been,
And what has now become.
The times you had with him,
He is replaying with a new one.
Why has this happened?
What to do, what to do?
Should I believe him?
Or ask the one that came through?
Maybe I should forgive him,
Because it is plain
What he has done to me,
I have done the same.
That was long ago, though,
Long before we ever had a bond.
But I must bury that,
Because no one would ever understand.
He told me then
That it meant nothing.
So why did he go back?
It must have meant something.
It's time to go now,
And find a new one,
Because what we really had,
Was a case of puppy love.
